Instructions

This page lists every QR code type on Solancr with the exact fields each one needs, the format the content takes, and practical tips for getting it right the first time.

Link and File Types

These formats all encode a URL. The differences are in what the URL typically points to and how people use them.

URL

Field: a single URL. Enter the full address including https://. Example: https://example.com/page. Use this for any general web link.

PDF

Field: a URL pointing to a PDF file. The PDF must be hosted somewhere public. Example: https://example.com/menu.pdf. Common uses are restaurant menus, brochures, and datasheets.

Image

Field: a URL pointing to an image file. Example: https://example.com/photo.jpg. The scanner will open the image in the browser.

PPTX

Field: a URL pointing to a presentation file. Example: https://example.com/deck.pptx. Some devices may prompt to download rather than open in place.

Video File

Field: a URL pointing to a video file. Example: https://example.com/clip.mp4. The device will play or download depending on the browser.

Audio

Field: a URL pointing to an audio file. Example: https://example.com/podcast.mp3. Useful for podcasts, voice notes, and music samples.

Forms

Field: a URL pointing to a form. Example: a Google Forms link, a Typeform, or your own form URL. Use this for surveys, feedback, or registration.

Custom URL

Field: any URI scheme. Examples: mailto:, tel:, sms:, or a deep link like myapp://open. Use this when the destination is not a standard web page.

App Markets

Field: a URL to your app's store listing. Example: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.example. You can generate one for each store or use a smart link that routes to the right store.

Text and Contact Types

Text

Field: any plain text. No URL needed. The scanner will display the text. Useful for short notes, instructions, or serial numbers.

vCard

Fields: full name, organization (optional), phone, email, website (optional), address (optional). The output is a vCard record that phones can save directly. Fill in only the fields you want shared.

Email

Fields: recipient address, subject, body. When scanned, the device opens a mail app with a draft message ready to send. Keep the body short because long text makes the QR pattern denser.

Phone Call

Field: a phone number in international format, such as +15551234567. Scanning prompts the device to dial the number. No call is placed automatically.

Network and Location Types

WiFi

Fields: network name (SSID), password, and encryption type. The generated code uses the standard WIFI:T:WPA;S:ssid;P:password;; format. Both SSID and password are case sensitive. When scanned, Android and iOS offer to join the network without typing anything.

Maps

Field: a location on Google Maps, either a URL or a search term. The code opens the location in the Maps app or browser. Best results come from pasting a Google Maps share link directly.

Social and Messaging Types

WhatsApp

Fields: phone number in international format and an optional prefilled message. The code opens a WhatsApp chat with that number. The message is inserted into the input box, not sent automatically.

Instagram

Field: your Instagram username. The code opens your profile. Do not include the @ symbol unless the form asks for it.

Facebook

Field: a Facebook URL. This can be a page, group, event, or profile. Paste the full URL directly.

Telegram

Field: your Telegram username. The code opens a chat with you in the Telegram app. Example: yourname becomes https://t.me/yourname.

TikTok

Field: your TikTok username. The code opens your profile. Example: yourname becomes https://tiktok.com/@yourname.

YouTube

Field: a YouTube URL. This can be a video, playlist, or channel. Paste the standard YouTube link directly from the share menu.

Booking

Field: a URL to your booking system. Example: Calendly, Cal.com, or a reservation page. Use this on printed material so customers can book from a scan.

Multi-Field Types

List of Links

Fields: a title and multiple links. The code opens a small hosted page that lists all your links in one place. Useful for creators, events, or businesses with several destinations. Fill in as many rows as you need.

PCR

Fields: structured data fields used in testing and lab workflows. Enter each field exactly as required by your system. The output is a plain text payload that matches the PCR format expected by the scanning software.

General Tips

  • Always test the code with a real phone before printing anything at scale.
  • Use international phone format for any code that may be scanned outside your country.
  • Keep content short. The shorter the input, the simpler the pattern, and the more reliably it scans.
  • Leave a clear margin around the code when placing it in a design.
  • Download as PNG for print, and JPG or WEBP for the web.
